Through word and deed, my parents instilled a strong sense of community and the desire to give back. It is in that spirit that I welcome the opportunity to serve in the Wyoming House of Representatives (HD30). The people of Sheridan will have a leader who listens to their needs and provides an active voice in support of their families, businesses, schools and neighborhoods.
Great-Grandfather William Symons was granted the land patent for our family ranch in 1890, the same year Wyoming became a state. Dad commuted the eight miles out to Wyarno where our Grandparents resided while we enjoyed the Sheridan town life. The house on Whitney Street placed us within School District 2 and I attended Linden Elementary School, Central Jr. High School and Sheridan High School (Go Broncs!). The YMCA became my social hub for competition swimming, life guarding and teaching swim classes.
After graduating from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Marketing, I was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. As a Supply Corps officer, my duties ranged from food service to retail to financial management and program management. It was my honor to serve the country for seventeen years before retiring as a Lieutenant Commander.
The data based process improvement and systems thinking learned in the Navy led to a second career at General Electric with certification as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. In August, I will retire from GE Healthcare after almost twenty years driving costs down, increasing capability and supporting the effectiveness of others in managing suppliers. Until then, internet service for my home in Wyarno is my virtual connection to the global team.
